How to Join K-State Flying Club

Thank you for your interest in K-State Flying Club. We are a member-owned flying club based at Manhattan Regional Airport (KMHK), co-located with Heartland Aviation in Manhattan, Kansas.

K-State Flying Club exists to promote interest in general aviation, provide well-maintained aircraft for member use, and keep flying as economical as practical. Club aircraft are available to members for personal, non-commercial flying.

About Membership

Club aircraft are not offered for rent to the general public. Each active member owns one share of stock in KS Flying Club, Inc. and participates under the Club Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, and Policies and Procedures Manual.

To join the club, applicants must submit a membership application and required supporting documents. Applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors. If approved, the Vice President will contact the applicant to schedule orientation and review the final steps for becoming an active club member.

The club may have a waitlist from time to time. If a membership spot is not immediately available, approved applicants will be contacted when a spot becomes available.

Membership Costs

  • Club share: $1,000. The share is repurchased by the club upon resignation, less any outstanding balance owed to the club.
  • Administrative fee: $100 non-refundable processing fee due at the time of stock purchase.
  • Monthly dues: $100 per month.
  • Aircraft rates: Aircraft rates may change periodically. Always confirm current rates on the club website or with club officers.

Flight Instruction

Club-approved flight instructors are available for instruction at several levels of training, including private pilot, instrument, commercial, flight reviews, and aircraft checkouts. Members may receive flight instruction in club aircraft from approved CFIs under Part 61 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.

Instructor fees and payment arrangements are handled directly between the member and the instructor. The total cost of obtaining a private pilot certificate varies based on individual ability, frequency of training, aircraft rates, instructor rates, and other expenses.

Membership Process

  1. Submit the membership application and all required supporting documents, including your official Motor Vehicle Record from the state where you are licensed.
  2. The Board of Directors reviews and votes on the application.
  3. If approved and a membership spot is available, the Vice President schedules orientation.
  4. At orientation, the applicant reviews club procedures, completes required membership paperwork, purchases a club share, and pays the administrative fee.
  5. After onboarding is complete, the new member may begin using club systems and coordinate flight instruction or aircraft checkouts as applicable.

If you hold a Kansas driver license, you can request your official driving record from the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The club lobby, located at Heartland Aviation, offers members access to:
